Event Description

The Asè Toolkit with great intention, is designed to provide a transformative framework for Black maternal health advocacy, rooted in African-centered approaches that honor the rich traditions and heritage of our community. Recognizing the profound challenges faced by Black mothers, including disproportionately high rates of maternal mortality and morbidity, this toolkit aims to address these issues through a restorative lens that highlights the strength and resilience inherent in our community. By integrating an African-centered perspective, it invites advocates to engage with the unique cultural, social, and historical factors that shape the experiences of Black mothers, fostering a deeper understanding and response to their needs. This framework not only empowers individuals to lead and advocate on behalf of their community but also cultivates a collective sense of agency, enabling meaningful and sustainable change in maternal health legislation.

The toolkit emphasizes the importance of Black, community-led solutions, dismantling systemic racism and bias in healthcare, and involving Black mothers and Black fathers in the decision-making process. It provides resources, messaging guidance, and advocacy tools to promote equity and healing justice.

Moving maternal health legislation through an African-centered lens is not only a matter of justice and equity but also a step towards healing, building a healthier and more inclusive society. It is crucial for lawmakers, policymakers, and community leaders to prioritize this issue and take decisive action. By amplifying the voices and experiences of Black mothers and involving them in the decision-making process, we can work towards comprehensive and effective solutions. The Asè Toolkit serves as a valuable resource in promoting maternal wellness, reducing health disparities, and advocating for birth justice. Together, we can create a future where maternal health disparities are eradicated, and every mother receives the care and support she needs.
